About Morrisville

Morrisville is a small town in central North Carolina midway between the larger cities of Raleigh and Durham. The town is home to a thriving commercial center, well-rated schools and a welcoming residential community, all of which have spawned significant growth in recent decades. It also offers easy access to Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill, making it a convenient and attractive option in the North Carolina Research Triangle area.

The History of Morrisville

Morrisville was first established in the mid-19th century and named for land donor Jeremiah Morris. The city's early identity was closely tied to the development of the North Carolina Railroad. Morris provided land to the railroad to establish a depot, water tower and related buildings, and the rail line helped fuel the town's growth.

Morrisville received its town charter in 1875, and ongoing commercial development in the form of retail stores, hotels, sawmills and legal offices soon followed. It remained a very small town through the first half of the 20th century; only about 1,000 people called the area home by 1990. However, population booms in the late 1990s and early 2000s led to major growth and expansion such that the population in Morrisville jumped to nearly 25,000 by 2015.
