About Amelia

Amelia is a small village in Ohio’s Clermont County, located in the state’s southwestern corner. Despite the village’s small size, it has seen rapid growth in recent years and more than doubled its population between 1990 and 2010. A large majority of the people living in and relocating to Amelia are young families drawn by its small-town way of life and friendly, welcoming community.

The History of Amelia

The village of Amelia was never officially platted, making it unique among the communities of Clermont County. Its early settlers lived in log cabins and constructed several mills in the area. The community was known as Milltown for its many mills, which eventually blended into the name Milton.

However, when a post office was established in the community in 1836, a new name was chosen. Locals chose the name Amelia, as a nod to Amelia Bowdoin, who was a well-liked tollgate operator on the area’s portion of the Ohio Turnpike. Today, Amelia Bowdoin’s home still stands on the village’s Main Street.

Living in Amelia

Amelia locals are known for being very involved in their community, whether it’s through one of the many community clubs and organizations or its special events. Holiday celebrations are an annual tradition, as are the numerous village-wide yard sales and community clean-ups.

You can also get to know your neighbors by joining one of Amelia’s clubs, like the photography club or the garden club. Village clubs generally meet regularly, and club activities are proudly shared on the city website.
