Leaking rooves along with trash and nails throughout the parking lot makes this the worst storage unit I have used. All of the 5 star reviews are fake and done by the employee's. The gate is regularly off line and customers are unable to get through the gate. The manager is also usually late to arrive so people are stuck outside until he decides to show up.

Today I had 2 experiences. One was horrible and one was amazing. I had originally reserved a unit at the guinea rd location but decided that I was not going to rent at that location. The interaction was not the best. I then looked at the second location and was in contact with Tommie. Tommie was very professional and pleasant to talk to. I've been renting for a few years now, through broken gates for months no security, only a few months after I moved in, they tried to raise my rates over 25% above there normal billing rate, I would call and ask for a rate reduction, they reduced it back down, only to try again and again, finally they said the $525 a month would be the rate and no adjustments will be allowed, when I called and said your advertising for $425 for the same unit, I got back yes for new clients, I guess the business model is get you in the jack you up; point being if you rent from this company expect a very high rent increase and this company doesn't appreciate there client no loyalty, its almost like a trap, you rent move all your stuff into the unit (a lot of labor), then only after a few month bang, they will raise your rent without justification or cause, because they know its a huge inconvenience to move. Not a good company for a long term rental. Yes I am moving out, and discourage folks from renting from this company,.

I called this place asking for rates. Many of them have a 1st month promotion. These guys didn't. I said I didn't want to move forward because there's no promotion. The rep said, "well, when you call back and the reservation is gone, don't say I didn't warn you," and basically hung up on me. VERY RUDE! The next place I called DID have the promotion and charged $40/month less.

Easy to set up and get to

I normally am not one to right reviews but in this case I feel I have to. I have been here for close to a year now and have to say, I have never had any issues. The site is super clean, safe and people that work at this location are kind and attentive to your needs. I want to recognize Robert especially because he has always been super kind and always is willing to ask me if I need anything (greet and speak to me) and is always there if you need him. He has helped me several times with various needs and goes out of his way to help. He is the main reason I’m writing a review! I appreciate that he is always willing to help and then the time in which he takes care of any of your needs. Thanks Robert!

I’m very disappointed if this place . I took my stuff last Monday everything has water and my mattress got damaged. And the guy that’s his costumer service is 0 . Never friendly and he just say call the insurance, well I pay to public storage the insurance. So awful. And everything got wet my boxes . I can’t stand that I don’t recommend this place.

Ellena, the regional manager has even bribed me with a larger unit at a discount in exchange for a 5 star review. More recently the gate has not been consistently working. People have not been able to access the unit during normal business hours due to the gate being broken.

Rent increases every year with no corresponding increase in services or infrastructure. If you can't pay in six days, your code to enter will be blocked. They will call/email you non-stop to collect outrageous late fees but will NOT act on reports of maintenance issues. Do not believe "air conditioned" units. There is no maintenance and zero preventative maintenance of the dehumidifier units in my block of units. All three are inoperable. While there have been some exterior improvements, the roads are in poor condition and nothing is being done to maintain "air conditioning" equipment. You're on your own if there is any water damage too.

Thank you, Robert! So I've been using this storage for probably two years and never really had an issue except for the storage not being climate controlled. Which meant I had to deal with mold. The office never gave me a warning. A warning would have been nice. Moving on. Next, in the more recent months, I noticed the door became heavier had harder to lift. I reported this concern to the office and they stated, the property manager will come and take a look. The PM comes once a month so it may take a month or two. (lame system if you ask me) A month or two pass, no updates. The lock began to fall apart. I mean the screws are missing and even with the lock in place, the plate would still fall off. I had to leave the plate at certain angle so it wouldn't fall off. Reported that to the office. Same story. The property manager will come and take a look. It may take a month or two. Da fug?!? I even gave them my lock key so they can investigate! Fast-forward to today. I get something from storage and found they're painting all the doors. I open the lock, struggle to lift the door as usual, got my stuff closed the door and put the lock and plate back. Only this time, it wouldn't stay. Da fug. I went to office again to report (the office, btw has been renovated too) and this fella, Robert who doesn't normally work at this particular site actually responded to my concerns. He was actually upset that I had to go through this. So he took it upon himself to find a spare plate and we set out to replace the plate so I can safely lock my storage. Unfortunately, fixing the door is the limit of his super-strength. So how the fug did this place get to have a paint job, a renovated office and yet managed to overlook a crumbling storage door that both posed safety and security risk?!? Robert is the *ONLY* reason I'm giving this a five stars. Just for *HIM* Zero credit is given to this storage facility. After this, I'm promptly contacting HQ to report poor management by property manager. The moral of this story is: do not get a storage here. It's not worth it..unless Robert is working there! So thank you Robert!

If I could give the Burke property zero stars or negative stars, I most certainly would! We have NOT been able to contact the property owner and the district manager will NOT return our phone call either. There is NO customer service!! We are paying $213 a month and can’t even get anyone to come out and put lightbulbs in the unit. We’ve been hung up on by the property manager. We’ve had to throw away our couch because it had mold on it due to NO climate control, even though that’s what we’re paying for. We are a military family and will be sure to tell our friends NOT to rent with public storage because they do NOT care about you or your belongings, only your money!!

Great process for a storage rental and relatively clean

I was in desperate needs of a local storage facility and I was able to find this location. I was still on the fence until I met Mohammed who made sure to take care of all of my needs. Now I am able to have extra storage just a few minutes away from home. Thank you for your great service Mohammed!

Overall, I have had a positive experience renting a 10' x 10' unit at the Public Storage facility in Burke, VA. The online instructions to move in were clear to arrive except there was no information about where to find the keys or lock or where to find them (we are new users and have no experience with this type of facilities) So I went to the office and the manager there, Mr. Mohammad was extremely helpful. He guided me through the process, gave me previse instructions and answered all my questions patiently and clearly. In this times, when many employees at such facilities are so condescending, Mohammad was a fresh air of kindness and professionalism. And, I am satisfied with the service that Public Storage is giving me.

The space I had reserved was not climate controlled so I could not use it. But the gentleman in the office, Mohammad, was extremely helpful and courteous. He tried to help me find a solution and gave me instructions on how to cancel my reservation. So my five stars are for the ease of reserving online and for Mohammad, not for the actual physical space, since I did not use it.

I have used Public Storage for the past 8 years on both the West coast (Seattle) and East. I have had good experiences up until my recent move to the East coast this January 2021. I rented a 10x30 unit in the Burke, VA location and it was a disaster. We backed up the 80-foot moving truck to find the light fixture wires were hanging exposed from the ceiling with a flood light dangling, and the other fixture replaced by a homemade hanging power receptacle, wires exposed. The door’s locking mechanism was barely secured to the unit by a rusted nut/bolt that could be unscrewed by hand from outside the door! The unit was clearly not ready for rental but yet, they rented it to me promising the repairs would happen quickly. After an untold number of phone calls to Carly, Alex and Chris Diamond (Regional Mgr), the light fixture work was finally completed 6 weeks later. The door work had to be completed during one of my many visits to the facility by Mohammed (onsite tech, good guy) and myself. A statement was made by Alex that “we should never have rented that unit to you”. Fast forward 3 months and I have just received a new bill containing a 30% monthly price increase! Several calls to both Alex and Chris Diamond asking for price reduction consideration for the initial inconvenience and loss of use (no lighting once it became dark outside) around the initial damaged/defective unit rental, along with a new 30% monthly price increase proved futile. This is unacceptable. The weak explanation of “price increase is due to market conditions” given by Chris Diamond, does not seem to track with the Public Storage monthly bill ever decreasing “due to market conditions”. I have leveraged several other Public Storage facilities in the past, mostly inside temperature-controlled units but have never experienced a more poorly managed facility as the Burke Centre Parkway facility. If this were my first time using Public Storage, I would have guessed they would be out of business by now, but being a Public Storage “veteran”, I know they can do much better. My suggestion would be to try any other facility outside of the Burke Centre Parkway facility.

Update: Public Storage customer service contacted me to make this right. They stated that these hidden fees are optional per their company policy and they would address the issue with their staff. They were nice and courteous and demonstrated willingness to refund me. I appreciated their follow up and am updating this review. Old: Be aware of the hidden fees that will not be communicated to you over the phone nor when the quote is emailed to you. There is mandatory purchase of a lock and insurance that is hidden. This is akin of scamming techniques. You will only be told about these fees when you’re physically at the facility signing your contract. If you’ve already made arrangements like I did, then it’s too late! Also hidden are... the dollies/trollies! You’d be lucky to find one in this facility. You may be lucky fining one hidden close by!

I had lost my keys right before the virus lockdown, and Elena was so helpful to do paperwork over the internet. Eddie at the Burke location was also very accommodating, helping me with purchasing a lock over the phone. Great service, and with a professional attitude. Thanks!!

After being stressed with moving and stress with landlord trouble we needed a space to store our belongings until we moved to another state. That's when I found Public storage in Burke and TAY! Tay was so welcoming and made our transition so smooth. Tay helped us get the best deal possible and walked me through the entire process. I couldn't recommend Tay and Public storage in Burke enough!

From the beginning of us stepping into Public Storage in Burke, Tay was an angel sent from above. After dealing with house troubles, being stressed with moving to another state for school and anything else you could think of...Tay helped my family and I go through getting two storages and a car space without a single stress. She made us laugh and helped with anything that she could possibly help us with. I can't express my gratitude enough for Tay and I hope she continues to stay there to make another person or family as happy as she did us!

Messy dusty units, with a garage door so stuck the Rock couldn't open it. Anyways the real problem is No Power & Lights goe 5 months. After registering complaints and calling the district manager Nothings been done.

There was recently an issue with water leaking my unit because the HVAC unit failed. I was promptly notified and asked to come in as soon as possible to move our items into another unit. The manager, Tay, was so very helpful moving our things (full unit including mattresses and heavy furniture) to a nearby unit. Fortunately there were 2 very nice gentlemen nearby who helped us with the very large and heavy items. Otherwise, it was just Tay and myself who moved all the other items. Tay was also very prompt with all the paperwork involved with the change. I'm not certain what we would have done if the gentlemen weren't available to help us. Just lucky this time.

I used this facility to store some furniture for me. It was only 3 months. The experience stared off good, had some annoying speed bumps in the middle, and ended well (based on the employees). Customer service from the corporate office The auto pay system is terrible! For some reason, they weren't able to bill my credit card for the 3rd month I was there, even though the system had billed it for the previous 2 months. When it failed, they did send me an email and left a message. Unfortunately, I didn't get them until it was too late. When I did read the email, I checked my credit card, but it wasn't locked or compromised. I decided to stop by the facility to see what was going on. I discovered that they system had charged me a late fee, even though there was NOTHING wrong with my card! While I was at the facility, I used the SAME card, that their system had an issue charging against, to pay my monthly bill to pay my bill in person. I asked the employee on site, to waive the fee, since there was nothing wrong with my card and I wasn't sure why their system couldn't process the charge. Unfortunately, he even raised it up to corporate, and they were unwilling to waive the late charge. I think it was either $10 or $15. In any event, they have lost any future business from me. No fault of the folks on the ground, they were doing their job. But the PM at corporate, Ms. Guyer, was not helpful and unwilling to waive the late charge. In the end, I think that the employee on site, felt bad about the whole situation and volunteered to help me get my stuff out of storage, even though it was raining outside. That guy deserves a medal!

They improved so much from few years ago. Things are easy, here is the price, here is the lock here is the keys. The process became so easy. The down side is the pricing for the lock and the packing materials. Higher than most.

My husband has a storage unit here. I had to take care of a few things for him while he is deployed. Many of the items were in the storage. I went to Public storage and a young man named Jlon assisted me. I was totally stressed out, but he was an absolute dear. He kept calm, he was very professional, patient, kind and helpful the entire time. I told my husband of my experience and he couldn't have been happier. I wanted to TIP him, but it's not allowed. But he certainly earned it. Public Storage, Keep staff like Jlon around, he certainly made the difference. Thank you Jlon for everything.

Terrible experience. Reserved a unit online and headed over to confirm. Was called en route and notified that someone else already reserved that same unit and I couldn't rent it. Even if I were to come in and pay for it, they wouldn't rent it to me. This is the second location in Burke that will not rent to people who do online/phone reservations - guess you just have to show up and pay the premium rate for any chance of getting a storage unit. Go to Fullerton Road location in Springfield - they are much nicer!!

Everything is great except for the fact that there are steps inside the place. If I have a dolly or a cart what good will it do me? But otherwise everything is great just as a PS store usually is.

My husband Mike and I are very happy with our new manager, Tami. Tami takes the time to answer all of our questions and was very helpful when we moved into our new storage unit in September. She is very knowledgeable. As Mike and I were moving in, Tami offered us a hand truck and she brought it to us. We were very impressed with her going above and beyond for her customers. We also experienced a billing problem and once it was fixed she actually called us to let us know that the billing problem had been resolved. The storage rooms are very clean and we appreciate it. THEY ASK PEOPLE TO POST THESE POSITIVE REVIEWS. DO NOT LISTEN. My Original review they asked me to post stated: "Second year using this space, love the service and location as a GMU student" My new review is STAY AWAY. All of my things were DESTROYED and covered in MOLD and the management was pointing fingers at who I was supposed to speak to about getting refunded (District Manager Sal pointed me to Manager Huma. Huma stated she is not the manager and there is no manager, Sal would not return my calls until I went over his head to the Regional Manager). I paid for a climate controlled indoor unit. 2 of the 3 climate control machines were BROKEN and I was told by an employee they know they have been broken since winter. I rented my unit in May (after the winter). So they lied and defrauded me and refuse to refund me saying it was not their fault .... If you store at this place you will be paying for them to destroy your things. I will be reporting this business to everything I can. They force people who store here to purchase insurance even though every piece of paper you sign says you do not have to buy insurance, I believe the insurance requirement is to cover their property because they know many peoples things get destroyed. If you stored your things indoor in building 2, then your stuff is ruined FYI, the entire place was damp and reeks of mold and mildew. Drive a few more minutes away and get a better unit at a different company. Attached are just some photos that show damage and the BLACK MOLD in my unit.

My appointment wasn't supposed to be until 9/8/17 but Samina called me the morning of 9/5/17 and told me I could stop by. I got there and Samina showed me the space and then we went back to do the paperwork. The whole process took less than 20 minutes. Samina's customer service was EXCELLENT!!!!! She is truly an asset to Public Storage!!

I would give them 0 stars if I could. I was offered a storage unit with the first month for $1. After renting the unit I was notified that my unit "did not qualify for the $1 first month promotion" and the general manager named Sal was contacted to correct it (Good luck contacting him). Long story short, I cleared out of the unit after 6 weeks and was billed for 2 MONTHS! I only paid for 1 month thinking they would correct it but they didn't. They sent it to a collections agency! UNBELIEVABLE!

I spoke to SAMINA at this Public Storage location initially to purchase a month of storage. Her compassion to help others was overwhelmingly evident through the interaction that we had. She was able to answer all questions I've had, in addition to providing useful advice on how to take the most advantage of the services offered by public storage. She even offered to lubricate the storage garage door upon opening it as it was slightly rough. SAMINA was who I spoke to when I wanted to vacate the space. She was again, so helpful in the process and made the experience pleasant. If you're reading this SAMINA, thank you so much for making my experience with Public Storage absolutely perfect. You have earned your company a returning company for life!!! I, including my friends and family, will be back to purchase more of your company's services for many future years. Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!

Great service, clean facility, and lowest prices. Very helpful staff. I checked several different storage facilities in the local area, and Burke had the lowest prices available. Only concern you have to watch for is the steps on some of the interior units which can make it more difficult to transport heavy items.

If I could I would give this establishment zero stars. Our family recently made a cross country move and while we were house searching we had our belongings stored in an interior, climate controlled unit at this facility. Fast forward 3 months, we met our moving company to move out our belongings only to find that water had seeped in through the cement walls and now we had mold growing on much of our furniture, mattresses, tv boxes and moving boxes. This is not a little water, the water had pretty much dissolved the boxes and our once white mattress was now covered in black and green mold. Funny thing is that the day we moved our stuff into the unit, we saw a mattress abandoned in the hallway that was in that condition -- black and moldy all around. We wondered how something like that could ever happen, perhaps it was a wet mattress to begin with that grew mold in humid conditions? We were even bamboozled at the front office to purchase a damp check container that would apparently "absorb" all the humidity in the unit. What a joke that turned out to be. Don't bother paying for the premium insurance, which we have. Only covers up to $5000. I mean, why would anyone pay $200/month to storage anything important or expensive right? And customer service? The woman working at the front desk didn't even bother to walk down to the unit to check out the condition when we discovered the damage. She handed over a pamphlet with a phone number circled and told us to go talk to them about insurance claims. Apparently whole unit water damage and mold growth is nothing to get excited about. Our movers said never have they ever seen anything like that before. They even complained about how their truck smelled of mold after loading our stuff. Again, our unit #3451 was interior (no exterior walls, nor near any doors, completely surrounded by other units) and climate controlled. I have uploaded some pictures of our damages for your viewing pleasure. You can decide for yourself if this is normal wear and tear after 3 months of storage and if you want to risk leaving your valuables under this establishment's watch.

We needed a nearby location to store extra stuff. Huma helped us select the right size storage unit and processed all the paper work so we could start using the unit immediately. The monthly rental prices are competitive. We feel secure while in the facility. Even with all the snow we've had lately, we have been able to access our unit without difficulty. The staff has really worked hard.

I came in to get a temporary storage space to start staging for an upcoming move. My customer representative, Shairei, did an outstanding job. The process was quick and painless and she had helped to account for all the things I had not previously considered. As this rental was only a temporary necessity, she advised how I could manage my payments without overpaying for time unused.
