The History of Bee Cave

The area's first settlers moved to Bee Cave in the 1850s, but the city did not officially form as a village until 1987. However, for more than 100 years before its incorporation, the area was home to a thriving community.

One of the earliest settlers in Bee Cave was Dietrich Bohls, who moved to Bee Cave from the larger city of Austin. He constructed a home at the confluence of Little Barton Creek and Barton Creek, and brought his family to enjoy a quiet life away from the busy city. There weren't many other settlers in the area, because it was still home to many Native Americans.

Bee Cave was named after the large colonies of honeybees that inhabited the banks of the local creeks.
